February Trip-Friday Day 2

Friday update

Before we headed out for the day Chad, with House of Hope, asked if he could pray for the team and then Von prays for him. Awesomeness!

We then boarded the bus and traveled to Leon where we stopped at Oscar’s and then he took us to a nearby feeding station. Oscar has a Sports Ministry, and oversees 55 feeding locations feeding a total of 9500 people. We stopped for a late lunch at Tiptop in Leon before driving back to Pochocuape and spending time with the children and people there.

Highs and Lows:

Jen: It was so cool to see everybody doing something, everybody engaged. And I have never seen arts and crafts overpower sports. That was awesome! A great community experience.

Marj: My high was seeing Marjorie and Isa so engaged. Norma suggested Marjorie tell the story of the feeding of the 5,000 and after that they just kept stepping up and doing so. And they did such a great job! And that’s really how it should be. Us encouraging and empowering them while we assist.

Kerrie: Just watching Oscar with those kids. Just seeing how incredible he is with those kids! And they love him!

And then being back on Pochocuape. And I loved seeing David even though I know he’s not living his life for Christ as I have prayed for so long. I just love that kid and I think he has such a chance.

Deb: My highlight was meeting a sixteen-year-old guy that most would classify as a “street punk.” Rough and tough on the outside . . . but something kept him hovering until he asked me to paint his nails, too. I told him I would, if he’d be willing to tell me what each of the five colors represented. He agreed, got his nails painted, and stuck around to hear the “Gospel by Colors” 3 times. I remember his name because it’s the same as my brother’s, David. Apparently the same David that Kerrie has been praying for for years. I didn’t know there was a history. But it is so evident that the Lord has his hand on that young man.

Norma: My high was when Monica [Pastor Jorge's wife] showed us a garden they had planted and last year they used that seed money to help raise money for the church, and then she showed us where they were going to build the new church. Then I said, “What’s that building?” It was so cute. She said, “Ah, this is a blessing to tell.” It was the home of the first couple to get married in the church. And she’s pregnant.

Dock: Just having an opportunity to spend time with Jorge. Several of us here were at his commissioning service in January of ’09. And tonight having Marjorie tell me “That’s my pastor and I love him.”

Jen Wiseman: As I was walking around and taking pictures, I noticed children with their nails painted and just had to ask, “Now, do you remember what those mean?” They put their thumbs together, “Negro-Pecados (Black – Sins), Rojo-Sangre de Jesus (Red – Blood of Jesus), Blanco . . . ” They knew the story; they knew their colors, and they were proud to tell me.

Praise

  • That we are able to witness and reap the benefit of Oscar’s faithful and fruitful ministry to God.
  • Praise for Melba and the other ladies of Pochocuape who honored us with their hard work by preparing a meal for us and the community.

Pray

  • For the young man, David, that God would work in his heart.
  • For tomorrow’s activities: We will be back at La Chureca in the morning, then will have lunch with the kids at Hogar de Fe orphanage and spend the afternoon working with them on their English. Pray that God will continue to give us eyes to see His hand in all of our activities and sense his presence and his pleasure.
